You know you're old when.....

You see your life flash before your eyes reading a comic. Scott Kurtz over on PVP had this to say about adult gamers. Make sure you read the last frame out loud to yourself - if you don't get it, you're too young. ;)

My Favorite Games...

If I had to choose 10 from the games that I play over and over and over, it would be.... (in order from eldest to newest)

Tetris (Arcade) The original and still the greatest. And who can forget that really bad pseudo-Russian music midi to that background of St. Basil's?

Hogan's Alley (Arcade) Shoot the gangsters, not the civilians! I don't even want to know how many quarters I dropped into this thing.

The Last Starfighter (Arcade) Greetings Starfighter! You have been recruited to defend the Frontier against Zur and the Kodan Armada.... I rolled this thing for the first time back in 1987 and I'm still waiting for Robert Preston to show up.

Wingcommander (PC) The original version. Still a great example of a dogfighting game, and a great step in the growth curve from the arcade to the fantastically layered experiences we get today (i.e. Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron). Too bad they took a good story and they butchered it so badly in that movie.

The Neverhood (PC) A strange place with a strange puzzle to solve - who are you? The story was strange and engaging, the puzzles maddening, and the entire game was created in claymation. How do you go wrong?

Mechwarrior 4 (PC) This one is actually just a placeholder for the whole series. I've been playing in the Successor States since the game was called "Battletech", the robots were made of lead and the field was my kitchen table. I miss those days. To bring them back, all I have to do is go saddle up my Atlas and stomp through a few Panthers.

Halo (Xbox) This game took the FPS into a whole new realm. And still does just about every weekend at my house.

Final Fantasy X (PS2) A masterpiece on so many levels it is hard to describe. This thing ate my life when it was released in 2001, and I still play it. There's a reason this game was chosen to be the base of Square's first ever sequel (which BTW is also a truly awesome game).

Voodoo Vince (Xbox) Just when I thought that no one can come up with anything new for the platformer genre, Beep Industries proved me wrong. A lot of fun, extremely well built, and an intriguing paradigm shift on the usual.

Crimson Skies (Xbox) Dogfight your way across a very different history. I love this game! I particularly love shooting my sons out of the sky when they get arrogant enough to challenge me.

Final Fantasy X-2

The kids and I just finished Final Fantasy X-2 for the first time. Wow. That's all I have to say right now. Wow. I imagine I'll have another 2000 or so other words for Gamerdad later. ;)

Name that Game

For those who think they've got the stuff, here's a little challenge for you. Name that Game displays screenshots from games on every console and of just about every vintage, and you get points by being able to identify them. Some are easy, and some are very hard.

Go see what you're score is.
